Professor & Chair

Dr. Mills is currently Professor and Department Chair for the Hospitality and Tourism Management program at the University of New Haven. With more than 20 years in hospitality education, Dr. Mills is considered a dedicated instructor devoted to the advancement of students via experiential learning opportunities receiving the University of New Haven Faculty Experiential Education Award and Excellence in Internships Award. She has published over 50 research  and academic related articles; more than 60 refereed conference proceedings and presentations; receiving ten research paper awards. Dr. Mills received her Ph.D. from Purdue University in Hospitality and Tourism Management, her Masters degrees from the University of North Texas in Computer Education and Cognitive Systems and in Hospitality Management, and her undergraduate degree in Hotel Management from the University of the West Indies.

Professor Allen is the founder of the Wine Institute of New England, a wine education and entertainment business catering to both industry professionals and consumers. She is a Certified Specialist of Wine and a French Wine Scholar. Her wine writing has appeared in several publications, including Connecticut Magazine, The CT Beverage Journal and the New England Wine Gazette. Professor Allen received her B.A. from SUNY Binghamton and her J.D. from Boston University.

Associate Professor

Martin A. Goldberg teaches  graduate taxation courses in the M.S. in Taxation program and business law course for both undergraduate and graduate business students. He is an attorney who has had long involvement in tourism, food, and culture.  He has led University of New Haven study abroad groups to Europe, two of them studying food, culture, and law in France.  He has taught a wide range of multidisciplinary courses as well as honors courses, all addressing cultural aspects of the United States and other countries.  He has been a faculty member in the College of Business since the year 2000, when he joined the University of New Haven after 20 years in private practice as an attorney.  His scholarship is primarily in the area of international business law, including international hospitality law issues.

Professor Hecht is an attorney with the law firm of Caplan & Hecht, LLC in New Haven, CT. He received his B.S. in Hotel, Restaurant and Travel Administration from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and his J.D. from Albany Law School. Professor Joshua Hecht also studied Hospitality Management at the Hosta Hotel and Tourism School in Switzerland. He is an executive board member of the New Haven County Bar Association and the Connecticut Bar Association.

Professor Rodney Irizarry Sr. received his Ed.S in Educational Leadership from Quinnipiac University and his Masters Degree in Labor Relations with a Certification in Human Resources Management from the University of New Haven.He holds a professional teaching and administrator certification for the State Department of Education (SDE) in Connecticut and has been teaching for over fourteen years.

Dr. Jones received her B.A. and M.A. in Sociology/International Studies from Acadia University in Canada and her Ph.D. in Recreation and Leisure Management from the University of Connecticut. She has over ten years of teaching and curriculum development experience in the areas of tourism, hospitality, event management and recreation/leisure studies. In addition to her teaching experience, she has spent the last 20 years conducting research, serving in international scientific committees and presenting in over 14 countries about the importance of sustainable tourism development and management. Her teaching and leadership experience has been highly regarded by educators all over the world as evidenced in her role as contributor for three years to the Teach Middle East Magazine.

Dr. Judd received his B.A. in Philosophy from University of Texas-Austin in 1967 and his Ph.D. in Psychology from University of Texas-Arlington in 1978. Dr. Judd is a retired professor of Marketing and Associate Dean of the College of Business at the University of New Haven. Dr. Judd research areas include shopping mall images, Japanese retail & distribution changes, e-commerce, services marketing, job design and job satisfaction, communication apprehension and advertising.

Dr. Miranda Lee received her master degree in Hospitality and Tourism from Purdue University and her Ph.D. in Hospitality Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Dr. Lee primary research areas of interest include hospitality web designs, knowledge and decision support systems, and movies’ impact on tourism. Dr. Lee teaches courses in Introduction to Hospitality & Tourism, Lodging Operations, Gaming and Casino Management, and Foodservice Management.

Professor Loughlin is currently the Director of Operations for the College of Business at the University of New Haven.  She was previously the Accreditation Coordinator at the School of Management at New York Institute of Technology.  She has degrees from Paul Smith’s College, State University of New York at New Paltz and the University of New Haven.  She has over 20 years’ experience in the restaurant industry.  The bulk of her experience comes with large-scale and high volume businesses including Hilton Hotels and Larry Forgione in ala carte and banquet operations.  Her area of interests are food and culture and the history of beer.

Professor Miller received her B.S. in Accounting  and an MBA from the University of New Haven. Prior to her joining the UNH full time faculty, she spent several years in public accounting specializing in the restaurant and leisure industries. Professor Miller is a member of the AICPA and CTCPA. Last year she received the Paul Harris Fellow award for providing forensic accounting assistance to law enforcement.  She currently holds certifications in Information technology (CITP)  and hospitality data analytics (CHIA).

Jean C. Miller has an undergraduate degree in accounting from the Central Connecticut State University. She holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of New Haven. Jean has a graduate certificate in public management. She is a member of the Connecticut Society of Governmental Accountants. Jean is fascinated with food and culture and the evolution of cuisine.

Chef Andrew Randi is a Professional in Residence with the College of Business, School of Professional Programs. Chef Randi holds a Master of Science in Hospitality and Tourism and a Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the University of New Haven along with an Associate of Science in Culinary Arts from Johnson and Wales University. Chef Randi has over 30 years experience in food and beverage management.

John Scippa has devoted more than 40 years to the research and teaching of Communication, Film, and Media Studies. In addition, his experience in the Hospitality Industry includes work in Restaurant and Food Service as a faculty member, consultant, and caterer. Professor Schippa holds a BA Degree in Film & Communication from the University of Detroit and a Masters Degree in Educational Media and Media Studies from Fairfield University.

With 15+ years of experience in human behavior, organizational management, and the entertainment industry, Dr. Zackin merges psychology, strategy, and imagination to guide individuals and organizations to create positive change. Her academic credentials include a BS in Film & Photography (Ithaca College), Masters degrees in Industrial Social Work (USC), Non-Profit Management (Hebrew Union College), and Depth Psychology (Pacifica Graduate Institute), and her doctoral dissertation focused on: The Psychology of Hospitality – Creating Welcoming and Inclusive Environments. In addition, Dr. Z has holds professional certifications from The Coaches Training Institute and the International Coach Federation and has her own coaching practice, theCoach4you.
