Vision, Mission, & Core Values

Experiential education is the cornerstone of the department of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of New Haven. The department focuses on the development of graduates via a unique focus on hospitality entrepreneurship and small business ownership. The department established the following vision, mission, and core values to guide its delivery of its degree programs and course offerings.


The department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) endeavors to become a leader in regional collegiate-level hospitality education by preparing highly qualified service oriented owners, managers, and operators for the hospitality, travel and tourism, and related industry.


The Department’s commitment to experiential education is evidenced through its mission:

The department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) mission is to prepare students for supervisory, management, and leadership roles, through diverse educational opportunities that emphasizes critical thinking and creativity; business sustainability; global awareness and community; diversity; business education; and the development of rounded personalities and attitudes suitable for progressive employment in the global hospitality, travel and tourism, and related industry. 


The HTM mission and vision are guided by the following quality assurance student-focused core values:

Established in 1952, and throughout its sixty-four year history, the department maintains the following fundamental goals:
