UNH HTM Students and Faculty at the annual HX: The Hotel Experience show 2016
HX: The Hotel Experience, formerly known as The International Hotel, Motel and Restaurant Show, is North America’s largest hospitality trade show for the hotel and restaurant industry. This convention has been in existence for over 100 years and is a multi-day event which began this year, on November 13, 2016, at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City.
Every year, students in the HTMG 3335 Convention and Meeting Planning course design, develop and execute an exhibitor booth for the University of New Haven Hospitality and Tourism Department. This years booth not only showcased our department to the many companies and individuals in the hospitality industry, but was also a great way for our students to network with others in the industry as well. The students began by selecting a booth location, sourcing and selecting promotional items to be distributed at the show, planning an agenda, developing a schedule of events, tracking all of the financials through purchase requests and invoice orders, and assembling the booth prior to the beginning of the show. They worked diligently up until the day of the show to make sure that every last detail was in place so that our booth would be well received. Along with this, the class worked at the booth to speak with interested individuals from the hospitality industry. This event allowed the students to gain real world experience in the event and convention planning industry, from idea development to complete execution.
The students hard work definitely paid off, the booth was a great success and was well received by all of the hospitality industry individuals who attended the show.
