Study Away in Las Vegas 2015
As part of the HTMG 3370 Gaming and Casino Management class, the students have the opportunity to Study Away during the University’s Spring Break in Las Vegas, Nevada. Throughout their visit, the class had the opportunity to tour numerous resorts, restaurants and casinos to give them a full understanding of daily operations in such a fast paced environment.
Over our recent spring break, my classmates and I had the opportunity to travel to wonderful Las Vegas. Since I have never been to Las Vegas, I was very excited to go and did not know what to expect. Once we arrived we were able to walk along the strip and sightsee before our first group dinner. My favorite resort that we passed was the Luxor because of its unique, pyramid shape. We were going to be staying at Paris Las Vegas, which was also was also visually appealing because it had an Eiffel tower outside of it. Throughout the trip, we toured numerous resorts, including the Wynn, Paris Las Vegas, and The Venetian, where we were able to see the different rooms and suites available and learn about the daily operation of each facility. My favorite tour was of The Venetian, as we were able to tour the separate departments of the property such as the casino, convention center, and restaurants. Aside from these tours, we also visited the Hoover Dam saw a Cirque du Soleil show. At night, we were able to go out and experience the city. Overall the trip was very enjoyable, as I was able to expand my knowledge while having an amazing time. I would definitely recommend this class to future students so that they can take advantage of an experience of a lifetime while learning more about the industry they hope to work in.Laura Peterson '15
